Discovering the Rock Churches
A pleasant walk in the city centre of Matera from the busy Via del Corso to the eighteenth-century Via Ridola, with a visit and story of the main churches.
We will descend into the Sassi, in the “Rione Caveoso”, mainly carved into the rock, through the main road that will lead to the breath-taking opening of the murgia materana and Gravina.
Visit a typical "cave house" the house carved into the rock, a unique environment for men and animals furnished with work tools of the time. We will continue with the discovery of a Rock Church always inserted in a cave but enabled for religious use.
